Secondary Teaching Assistant Vacancy in Newport

We are looking for Teaching Assistants to work within a Secondary School in Newport.

The successful candidate must have experience of working with KS3 and KS4 and will be required to work with children with challenging behaviour, so experience in this field would be an advantage. You must have good subject knowledge as you will be asked to move between different classes as well as excellent literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.

Additional Learning Needs Teaching Assistant required for popular school in Cardiff At Staffroom Education we are seeking, experienced Teaching Assistants who have a vast amount of Additional Learning Needs experience to work within a busy Special Needs School in Cardiff. The school is easily accessible by public transport coming from the City Centre as well as links to the M4 and A48 if travelling by car. There is free car parking for staff on site as well and a short 5 minute walk to the bus stop. The school itself cater for pupils between the ages of 3-19 who have Additional Learning Needs, many of whom are on the Autistic Spectrum and present severe physical challenging behaviour. Many of the positions within this school require candidates to be trained in Manual Handling or Team Teach, so if you hold the All Wales Manual Handling certificate or Team Teach certificate that would be beneficial but it is not necessary. You must have experience within the following sectors:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Emotional Behaviour Disorder (EBD)
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)

We have several clients who are looking for Bilingual Teaching Assistants to work on a supply basis within their schools. The ideal candidate will work under the direction of the class teacher and you will use the pupils first language to support and develop their learning.  All Bilingual Teaching Assistants should have a good understanding of the pupil’s cultural background and should be briefed on this by the class teacher. Bilingual Teaching Assistants will also use the pupils first language to explore concepts in greater depth and to help develop their learning. You will play an import part in helping build the pupils self-esteem and confidence so that all pupils are enabled to reach their full potential.

The ideal candidate will be expected:

  • To work under the guidance of the teacher
  • Prepare the classroom before each class as well as tidying at the end of each class
  • Support reading groups
  • Work on a one to one basis
  • Lead small groups
  • Have excellent knowledge of the school curriculum
  • Have excellent numeracy, literacy and ICT skills
  • Monitor and record pupils progress
  • Report feedback to the teacher
  • Carry out administrative duties
