Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I need qualifications to work with Staffroom?

Depending on the role you’re interested in, our Teaching Staff will need your UK Teaching Qualification.

If you are looking to take on a Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor role, schools accept qualified and unqualified Teaching Assistants providing you have at least 3 months worth of experience working with children in a professional capacity in the UK within the past year.

  2. What counts as ‘experience of working with children’?

Experience of working with children could be working or volunteering at your local school, church group or community group, mentoring, sports coaching or tutoring. Anything that has given you the opportunity to work closely with children, schools require this type of experience so that they can be confident you are comfortable working with children.

  3. Does it cost money to register with Staffroom Education?

Registering with us does not incur any additional costs, although all staff are required to be registered with the EWC (Education Workforce Council) which is a Welsh Governing Body that allows staff to gain paid work within schools, this registration is £15 a year. In addition to this, you will need an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) which is a police check to ensure you are permitted to work with children, this certificate is an initial £56, but only £13 every year after that.

  4. How much work will I get?

Due to all of our work being temporary, we cannot guarantee a certain amount of hours per week. Our roles can range from one day bookings up to a whole academic year therefore the amount of work you get will depend on the demand of the schools and your personal availability.

That’s no problem, as long as you’re not in a long-term role through us with one of our schools you are free to leave with no obligations. There are no ties, that’s the beauty of supply, you choose when you work. Each week, we contact you to find out what your availability is like for the following week so you could be available 5 days or even just 1 day!

Yes, we work closely with ACT training to provide staff that have worked at least 10 days through us to access free Teaching Assistant training.
